Note: once you have adjusted the pixel offset and saved the page, you will need to log out and back in to test the alignment.
Under AP Settings, the General tab allows you to select which check template to use for printing checks, and to fine-tune the alignment of the printed check to match your specific printer.
1. Select a Check Template
Go to AP Settings.
Click the General tab.
Choose your check template. Two templates are available:
Check First
Stub First
These are considered QuickBooks template checks. If you're ordering physical check stock (for example, from Costco or another printing vendor), you can order checks designed for QuickBooks, and they should work with either template.
Click Save after selecting your template.
2. Test Print Alignment
Even though check templates are standardized, printers can vary in how they line up printed content. After saving your template selection:
Print a few sample checks — using a void check or plain paper — to test alignment.
Hold the printed page up to an actual check (or to the light) to see how well the printed content lines up with the check fields.
3. Adjust the Offset Settings
If the alignment is off, use the offset settings to fine-tune the check's starting position. These adjustments are measured in pixels.
Vertical position:
A positive number (e.g., 10) moves the check content down.
A negative number (e.g., -10) moves the check content up.
Horizontal position:
A positive number moves the check content to the right.
A negative number moves the check content to the left.
Recommended Approach
Make small adjustments — start with increments of 5 or 10 pixels at a time rather than large jumps.
Reprint a sample check after each adjustment to check the alignment.
Repeat as needed until the check lines up correctly with your printer.
